Pismo Beach, Arrival date: 03-05-2023
The Experience:
After staying 1 night at a Walmart with our German neighbors, it was time to move again to a new location. Which was a new Walmart parking lot hahaha. We had to recover a little financially after spending 500 dollars for grocery and fuel, LOL.
After 1 night, we were certain that we would stop at Pismo Beach. The weather had some influence on our decision and we were also planning when to go to Disneyland. We wanted wonderful weather in Disneyland, of course.
Heading to Pismo Beach, I wanted to drive Route 1 so I could drive the Big Sur. But unfortunately, the Big Sur was closed off because of moving rocks that was a disappointment and the day we drove was rainy, so the experience would also be different. I was already driving on Route 1 when I noticed the closed signs, so I took a u-turn on a narrow road with Iris guiding me to prevent falling off a cliff.
On our way, we stopped at Carmel-by-the-Sea. A really cute village on route to Pismo Beach. The village was a little too small for our RV, so while driving, I was stressing not to hit anything and also park the RV. That was a challenge.
We finally parked the RV and had lunch in our mobile home. Afterwards, we started walking towards the beach. The beach was a 15-minute walk downhill, and after our climb in San Francisco to get to Lombard Street, we wanted to avoid another climb. I went back to get our RV for another stressful parking problem. We took a minute at a viewpoint and sat there and talked with Iris while James was sleeping in his stroller.
Half an hour later we went back to the RV. James woke up cranky and cried. Once we started moving again, we thought about buying sweets for on the way. Stressful searching a parking started again. But we overcame that challenge once again. James was after chocolate on speaking terms and we starting moving again to Pismo Beach.
The camping at Pismo Beach was amazing. It was so clean, with a playground for kids, mini golf, arcade game room, a restaurant and a little shop where you could get some grocery. We meet really nice people there and James had the time of his life playing at the playground with the other kids.
James is like a sponge now, so he’s learning English from the local kids. When he’s counting he starts in Dutch, continues in Turkish and ends with English, so cute. Oh, end “Oh my gosh” is also what he learned at Pismo Beach. We laugh every time he says it, too cute the handle how he says it. The playground was right in front of our RV, so after a while we had the confidence to let him play. Sometimes he went with the kids inside other RV’s which let to laughing moments and meeting the parents. They were friendly, and some had advice or handy tips for our journey.
That’s how we find about Dinosaur Caves Park with a breathtaking ocean view. James played there for more than an hour with Iris while I made some amazing photos. Afterwards we had a family pick nick on the grass in front of the playground and enjoyed a wonderful day there.
The days flew by and we had to leave Pismo Beach because we were going to Disneyland. On our way to Anaheim, we visited Santa Barbara. We walked the pier, had an ice cream, walked a little more and sat down at the beach where James could play. Iris arranged a friend for him. This kid had 2 shovels, so they dug a hole.
After Santa Barbara, we drove a little further to a Walmart where we spent the night. The next morning we went to a T-Mobile shop to get a prepaid sim with unlimited data and ate at iHop. It was on a Sunday and very busy. But it was a delicious lunch.
Right after our lunch I got us a 3 night stay at Orangeland RV Park, so we drove for another hour and got settle and rested.
More on Orangeland and Disney is in the next blog. Stay tuned, subscribe to the newsletter if you haven’t already to be the first to know if there’s an update.
